The School of Steelpan is integral to the ongoing work of the organisation and comprises the following:

Workshops and tuition in schools

Weekly evening tuition for beginners, intermediate players and adults

Professional development for steelpan tutors

Accreditation including steelpan graded examinations

Support for the Steelpan Educators and Tutors Association (SPETA)

We currently work in schools in Buckinghamshire.  Each week over 100 children and young people benefit from the two hour tuition sessions led by three professional Steelpan Tutors provided. Weekly tuition takes place on Saturdays from 10:00 am -4:00 pm at Lily’s Walk, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire.

In 2008 SV2G delivered a Steelpan in Education project supported by Arts Council England South East. Four SV2G tutors were able to experience intensive training on the steelpan syllabus from the University of West Indies (UWI) in Trinidad and Tobago and also attended workshops at Pamberi Steel Orchestra pan theatre (pan yard) in Trinidad. The link with UWI continues, allowing ongoing professional development for SV2G tutors and  for Wycombe Steel Orchestra members to pass graded steelpan examinations.
