Artistic Directors

Wycombe Steel Orchestra Artistic Directors are CRB/DBS checked, trained tutors that teach, compose and arrange on the steelpan instruments.  They have all been trained at the University of West Indies for graded examinations on the steelpan instrument.


Beth Gallagher BSc, MSc

Beth qualified with a 1st class Bachelors degree with honours in Real Estate Management and her MSc in Spatial Planning.

Beth’s musical skills originate from Irish fiddle, penny whistle and dancing. Her more recent background is in the Tenor Horn where she is currently the Principal Horn at Chinnor Silver Band. She has also taken grades in the piano and singing. Her pursuit of music has led her to perform in the Royal Albert Hall, Germany and Austria. Beth has stewarded at the International Brass Band Summer School residential course.


Chris Roberts LLB

Chris is currently a Trainee Solicitor in the City after qualifying with a Bachelors Degree in Law and completing his Legal Practice Course.

Chris has a performing arts background where he trained at the Jackie Palmer Stage School in Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Drama, and Music.  Chris has been nominated for many awards over the years, including the Ken Dodd Tap Award by the International Dance & Theatre Awards in Manchester for the Trinity International Board.  His modelling and acting career has included award winning Harry Potter movies.


Jess Phillips BSc

Jess currently works in the field of science analysing and testing pharmaceutical drugs after qualifying with an Honours Degree in MSci Forensic Science. Whilst at University she held the position of Sports Federation Executive, answering directly to the Kent University Student Union Vice-President in charge of Sports.  She has also previously held the position of President of the African-Caribbean Society and Treasurer of the Kent Cheerleading Squad and used to be one of their coaches at Kent University. She now manages and directs her own squad in High Wycombe.

Jess has taken her grades in Piano, Guitar, Music Theory and Singing. Her vocal chords have taken her to Austria and Slovakia on musical tours and performances at the Royal Albert Hall with Chamber Choir. Her other instruments includes the Flute, Violin, and Saxophone.
